Fence Policy

Understanding our requirements for safe outdoor spaces.

Do I need a fence to adopt from you?

Not always.

Whether a fenced yard is required depends entirely on the individual needs of the dog. Some dogs are flight-risks, energetic runners, or need a secure outdoor space to feel safe and settled. Others do perfectly well in homes without a fence, such as apartments, townhomes, or rural properties, so long as they receive safe, supervised outdoor time, regular exercise, and enrichment.

At Cross Our Paws Rescue, we look at each dog's temperament, history, and safety needs before deciding whether a fence is necessary. Our goal is always to set both the dog and the adopter up for success, and sometimes that means a fenced yard is essential while other times, it isn't required at all.

If you're ever unsure, just ask. We're happy to help you understand what each dog needs to thrive.
